Chelation therapy is a treatment by which a grabber substance pulls toxins out of the body. To chelate | | means to grab toxins out. Chelation also grabs calcium out of the body.
 | | What is the substance used to chelate patients?
|
The most common substance is called EDTA. There are other substances that can be used, but EDTA is |
| | the most known.
 | | Is it safe?
|
EDTA has been used by millions of times since 1940 with minimal side effects. It is used in most grocery |
| | products as an “anti-aging agent.” It does more or less a similar job in our bodies. EDTA is made out of two molecules of vinegar and is 300 times safer than aspirin.
 | | Hoe many treatments do I need?
|
As chelation can grab only a small amount of toxins at a time, it is necessary to have as many as 40 |
| | treatments in a row in order to deliver “the punch.” Doctors recommend about 40 treatments, then once a month maintenance treatments. Each treatment is like you going up one step on stairs that lead to better health. The number of stairs it takes to make you symptom free may not mean excellent health as per this illustration:
 | | How long does the effect last?
|
Without maintenance, about four years, give or take one year. With maintenance, it can last indefinitely. |
| | Please see these illustrations:
 | | Can I try 10 treatments first?
|
You can, but it is not recommended. As EDTA chelates a small amount at a time, you may not improve |
| | after just 10 treatments and even if you do, the treatments will not bring you far from the danger zone so you can fall back to where you were fairly quickly. Please look at this illustration:
 | | Can I take a vacation of several weeks in the middle of these treatments?
|
It is recommended that for the first 20 treatments you do not take a vacation longer than a week if at all |
| | possible. After the 20 treatments, you can take a 2-3 week vacation, but it is not advisable to take a vacation longer than 3 weeks.
 | | How often do I need chelation?
|
Usually the average frequency is twice a week. You can also slow down to once a week, but it is much less |
| | effective. If you are very ill, it may be necessary to have the treatment done three times a week.
 | | Do I need to take supplements?
|
Yes, you do. Unfortunately, chelation takes out a small amount of minerals and it becomes critical to |
| | replace them.
 | | What about oral chelation?
|
Oral chelation is also available. You need to understand that oral chelation is about 100 times less effective |
| | than the IV, similar to comparing a car with a bicycle. It just cannot deliver the goods. All the flyers that you get in the mail about oral chelation are actually taking results from IV chelation in order to promote their oral chelation product. I have seen very few patients if any that were really helped by oral chelation.
 | | Do I need single or double doses?
|
The more serious condition you have, the more double doses you need. There is much controversy in |
| | the literature but experience taught us that indeed, a double dose is slightly more effective than the single dose.
 | | What are some contraindications?
|
Severe heart failure and kidney blockage more than 80%, severe hypoglycemia, psychological disorders, |
| | poor veins, frequent urination, etc.
 | | What are the side effects?
|
Discomfort at the needle site, mild tiredness, possible mineral imbalance, kidney overload. Calcium |
| | deficiency is also possible, but rarely happens. Some individuals may faint when stuck with a needle or from simply seeing a needle. This treatment is a medical procedure performed in a medical office. This means that we are prepared and we do everything we can to minimize and treat side effects when they occur.
 | | How will I know if it is working?
|
If you start out with symptoms, they will get better and better and will eventually go away. You can also |
| | take a spiral CT with calcium scores before and after. If you start without symptoms, you may not feel anything. However, chelation opens vessels by means of nitric oxide, cleans and detoxifies the system of heavy metals, and eliminates free radicals, all highly beneficial for health.
 | | Are there treatments that enhance chelation therapy?
|
There is a new treatment names PLAQUEX that speeds up results. PLAQUEX treatments is dramatically |
| | more intense and also more expensive. It is relatively new compared with chelation, but results so far are very promising. There is also a treatment called hydrogen peroxide that can help chelation especially for patients with low oxygen levels like emphysema or a special IC vitamin cocktail for macular degeneration.
 | | When can I expect to feel different?
|
Everybody is different. You may feel something different from the first treatment, or after 30 or more |
| | treatments. The average time is after 10-15 treatments. You may feel less pain, more energy, and a general improvement of your well-being. However, as no treatments is perfect, there is a small fraction of less than 10% of patients who do not improve at all after chelation. Usually the patients that don’t improve do not follow all the doctor’s recommendations.
 | | Why is my cardiologist not recommending it?
|
As there is no fancy patentable substance in the chelation treatment, there are no big commercial |
| | interests in chelation therapy, so this treatments is not promoted to doctors. On the contrary, this treatment may compete with much more profitable therapies. Sine chelation is not mentioned in Medical School or medical reference books, conservative doctors tend to stay away or even position themselves against chelation.
 | | Are there any ongoing studies?
|
Currently, a major $30 million study is sponsored by the National Institute of Health. There were smaller |
| | studies before which all showed the benefit of chelation therapy, except for a few studies specially designed by the “opposition” to not show a benefit. If you listen to many happy patients, you will realize that the treatment works, but chelation is subject to much politics.
 | | Why is my insurance not covering it?
|
Because insurance companies’ interests are to cover as little medical treatments as possible. This is how |
| | they make money. As EDTA chelation treatment is not a mainstream procedure, they are happy to label the treatment as “experimental” and not cover it. That is despite the millions of treatments performed and happy patients all over the world and the fact that it has been performed safely for more than five decades.
 | | Is EDTA approved by the FDA?
|
EDTA is approved and deemed safe by the FDA. EDTA is approved for heavy metal (lead, cadmium, etc.) |
| | detoxification. Any substance once approved and considered safe can be legally used fore other medical purposes.
 | | What are my chances of improvement?
|
In general, there is a chance of improvement in about 80%-90% of the cases. From our experience, if |
| | you have claudication or leg pains, your chances are even higher. The younger you are, and the less aggravating conditions you have, the faster chelation therapy works.
 | | What conditions are improved?
|
Arterial conditions are improved by chelation therapy. Venous problems are not improved. In general, |
| | long and diffuse blockages are not improved. Short or small blockages as well as total blockages are not. Carotid blockages are difficult to treat. The best suitable to chelation therapy are heart conditions, leg blockages, and circulation problems, even if they are close to gangrene. It may save legs from amputations or strokes from occurring. It may speed up and promote recovery after a stroke or help prevent a surgery.
CHELATION WORKS FOR THE RIGHT PATIENT. THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS IMPROVED. YOU CAN BE ONE OF THEM!!!
